1936 Mercedes 500K Special Roadster Replica
The beautiful original Mercedes 500K roadsters were a very rare issue – just 354 of them produced in Germany over 85 years ago.
The few survivors selling today command prices in the 7 figure range, so a market for the replica cars emerged about 20 years ago, enabling people to buy affordable duplicates of these historic classic roadsters.
This particular vehicle is a model issued by Heritage Motors in Miami, Florida.
The vehicle was assembled in 2002 and has been registered in Nevada as a 2002 ASVE (DMV abbreviation for Assembled Vehicle).
The fiberglass body, with reverse opening “suicide” doors has a Vanilla Cream finish, and the comfortable split bench seat interior looks great with a nicely contrasting Butterscotch and tan upholstery combination.
The retractable tan soft top tucks under a flip up tonneau cover behind the seat.
The padded dashboard has wood grained inserts and white faced vintage instruments, the odometer showing 24,500 miles since its construction 20 years ago.
Cooper Cobra radial tires are mounted on chrome steel wheels with wire spokes, and the roadster sports plenty of chrome – large headlights, twin trumpet horns, sidemount lamps, split windshield frame and plenty of other brightwork glistens in the sunlight from the front bumper to the tips of the dual tailpipes.
This is the kind of vehicle for the person who dares to be different.
It attracts a crowd wherever it is driven, and it can be driven daily in any traffic conditions.
The body rides on a Camaro chassis and is powered by the dependable Chevy 5 liter V8 engine with a Turbo 350 automatic transmission and 10 bolt GM rear end.
With power steering and power brakes, the roadster is easy to drive, and it cruises easily on the freeways at a miserly 25 mpg.
The car is set up for air conditioning (non-operable) and has an AM/FM/stereo system, and a wood grained steering wheel.
